On Thursday, Feb. 17, we were notified by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and the manufacturer Abbott that three powdered formulas (Similac, Alimentum and Elecare), manufactured in its Sturgis, Michigan, facility have been recalled due to potential Cronobacter sakazakii or Salmonella Newport contamination.
Parents are advised not to use Similac, Alimentum or Elecare powdered infant formulas if:
- The first two digits of the code are 22 through 37; and
- The code on the container contains K8, SH or Z2; and
- The expiration date is 4-1-2022 (April 2022) or later.
- Products that do not contain the information above are not impacted.
